Rheoscopic Convection Fluid

Have you ever needed a safe and simple way to vividly demonstrate thermal convection?  What about showing how laminar flow can become turbulent?Convection Fluid

Now you can use our new Rheoscopic Convection Fluid to set up demonstrations that will explain all kinds of flow-related phenomena.

For example,

  • Show what happens when different miscible liquids such as water and ethanol are mixed.
  • Model shoreline erosion and sedimentation.
  • Explain aerodynamic flow without the need for a wind tunnel.
  • Demonstrate classic thermal convection in a way that will make thermal gradients visible.

Our non-toxic fluid is supplied as a concentrate.  Mix with water to produce a swirling white liquid that remains stable for months.  Click here to learn more.

While we're talking about "fluids for physics", check out Ferro Fluid, a liquid with magnetic properties.  Ferro Fluid is guaranteed to captivate your class and can be used as a lead for lessons covering nano technology, magnetism, dispersions, surfactants, surface tension and lots more.  Click here to learn more.

Did you know?

We all realise it is dangerous to eat the wrong kind of mushrooms or toadstools, but how dangerous?  A team of scientists in Japan has identified a deadly toxin in Russula subnigricans, a species of mushroom that has caused several deaths in recent years.  The toxin is a small (4 carbon) molecule that has an unusual way of operating - it causes muscle tissue to break down.

Read all about it in Science News.

Electrophoresis

Electrophoresis

Gel electrophoresis has become the standard method for separating mixtures of charged molecules such as proteins and fragments of DNA.

Now you can safely run electrophoresis pracs in your school lab with Australian made BioEd equipment that has been designed for use in education.

Start with simple low cost experiments using dyes and plain agar gels before you move on to handling DNA digests on agarose gels.

To learn more, click here to watch our narrated PowerPoint tutorial on line.  It's called "Getting Started With Gel Electrophoresis".  You can also download the script as a reference.

The key to success with electrophoresis is familiarity with the equipment and confidence in the techniques.  Once you understand the principles and practice the methods, you will quickly gain competence.
